The Friday Recliner June 19th

The Friday Recliner

Welcome to the Friday Recliner friends – a little something to get your weekend started on a relaxed note and a quiet place to rest a while.

A few technical hitches with Mailchimp this week so I’m coming to you via a blog post which I just may stick with. If you’ve arrived here because I sent you a link  via email please hit the Follow button on the right (if you want) and if I have enough takers I’ll continue in this format. If you already follow my blog thank you and you don’t need to do anything just read away.

As always I hope you’ll find something to inspire, something to admire or think on or create and something good to read.

A Good Word

If we don’t pick a day to relax, our bodies will pick it for us

A Good Idea

A couple of thoughts on fairy gardens, creativity and feeling like a person by my internet friend  Dawn L Wright

“Making art helps me get centered and clear. It gives a thing for my body to do while my brain and heart and spirit sort and process and synthesize.

By thinking about nothing, I’m thinking about everything. I lose myself in creating and come out the other side rested and awake and more myself.

Its like yoga or meditation or prayer.

Inspired by my sister, I made a little milk carton fairy house from things around the yard.

Felt good to lose myself in something for a bit. And to add some whimsy to 2020.

I want to plant some small flowers on the left and maybe a ground cover behind the fence.

My husband suggested a car for the gravel, but the dogs keep stealing things out of the planter, so we have to play that by ear.

These are intense days, friends, hope you are finding your restorative activities that help you feel like a person. What is your thing? Walks by the ocean? Coloring pages? Weight lifting?”

It wasn’t love at first sight for Chip and me. For one thing, I was typically attracted to guys who were more on the quiet side. Based on our first date, it was clear that Chip was anything but quiet. In my mind, I somewhat instinctively checked his penchant for risk and chatty nature as two reasons we probably wouldn’t go on a second date.  But there was also a part of me that was intrigued. All the ideas and dreams he held for himself were anything but ordinary, and he talked about the world around him through the lens of untapped potential  – – – –  Keep reading

Hate Cannot Drive Out Hate: Only Love Can Do That by Scott Sauls

The man Nathanael was skeptical of Jesus, until he wasn’t.As others speculated about whether or not Jesus was the long-awaited Messiah, Nathanael famously asked, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” (John 1:46)Nazareth, the place of Jesus’ upbringing, was a small and obscure town, not known for churning out movers and shakers, let alone the King of the World. Based on place of origin alone, Nathanael wrote Jesus off.But this skeptic’s posture swiftly shifted when Jesus, whom he had never actually met, declared, “I saw you under the fig tree,” to which Nathanael responded, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the King of Israel!” (John 1:48-49) Why the sudden shift? What, exactly, did Jesus see under that mysterious fig tree?
