Five Minute Friday ~ Try

Welcome to Five Minute Friday Five-Minute-Friday-4 TRY – it puts me in mind of this.

In the morning sow your seed, and at evening withhold not your hand, for you do not know which will prosper, this or that, or whether both alike will be good. Ecclesiastes 11:6

So without seed in the ground – without trying –  theres nothing to grow.

Not even a whiff of a chance unless I throw that seed far and wide. No chance at all unless I give it a go, my best shot, my near miss, even a girl throw – just try. Even if I’m afraid or unsure or doubtful – maybe all three – I’m bound to be – but just get in the race – just try.

“Anything worth doing is worth doing even though it might not work” Seth Godin

IMG_0129I like the practicality of it – it gives me something to do – and I like to have something to do – especially when I’m not sure what to do. When I’m looking for something to change or there’s a little bit of a mountain to move.  So  prayer prayed – I throw a few things at it – put some seed in the ground. Try what I know and then what I don’t know – sow this way and that, to the right and to the left, over my shoulder with my eyes clamped shut. No guarantees – except God with me – no clear set of instructions, no blue print – not yet anyway. Like sowing seed as the evening draws in – – –  things are blurry around the edges and fading into each other. And I can’t see where the seed is landing, whether it’s found soft good soil or hard rocky ground – I can’t tell – – – but the seed is still sown – the seed is still good in itself.

Ours to sow and God’s to grow.

But theres something in the trying and in the continuing to try that’s valuable all on it’s own – theres faith in there and hope and not giving in and trust and bravery. It say’s I haven’t given up on winning, it says I haven’t given up on believing.

Isn’t our trying an asking and a looking and a longing for God?  We give Him our seed and look for His goodness  to find us – to break through the soil and surprise us with it’s beauty. We pray our prayers, we offer Him our earthbound doing and trying and ask Him to make it good, to hit it with heaven and make something of it.

“Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. Matthew 7:7  NLT

  1. Thank you so much for the sweet comment on my blog! It is nice to hear that you have written something that someone else appreciates. I really appreciated your post. I loved the imagery of the seeds and the allusion to the parable of the sower. It really reminded me of how much the Lord helps us through everything and makes up the difference.
